Oxjam Cambridge Takeover 2015 Update

The Oxjam Cambridge Takeover is back for 2015 and we are looking to build on the success of last year. Showcasing the best local talent that this beautiful city has to offer, whilst raising money for Oxfam.

We kicked off the Summer season with the legendary Buskathon. Local artists hit the streets of Cambridge unplugged to give the shoppers a taster of what Oxjam Cambridge is all about.

Outside Oxfam on Burleigh Street, the musical stylings of Grant Cole, Charlie Hole and Tull and Emmy.

Tom and Chloe with Volunteer Coordinator, Christa Lucas
Charlie Baker
First came the Buskathon, next came the Great Oxjam Bake Off at the Sanger Institute. So when the employees aren't pioneering the latest research in genomics and genetics, they are experts in baked goods. They brought the cakes, and we brought the tunes, Buskathon favorite Charlie Baker returned to share his amazing vocals with all of Sanger.

Oxjam Co-Manager, Lisa Cahill and Volunteer Coordinator, Christa Lucas also got involved with the Oxfam Big Lip Synch campaign at Reading Festival. Great music, great people and getting poverty on everybody's lips!

There is so much more to come running up to the amazing Oxjam Cambridge Takeover on Saturday 17th October 2015. Make sure to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook to keep up with our antics.

Top 10 Reasons Why Oxjam Cambridge Takes to The Town

There are so many reasons to spend your summer hitting as many festivals as possible; get some fresh air, camp and listen to some great music at the same time.

But the Oxjam Cambridge Takeover likes to do things a little differently. Instead we get 6 venues and put on several acts during the course of one night; it’s a musical extravaganza and a great night out!
So we present to you our top ten reasons why we think the Oxjam Cambridge Takeover doesn't need a field and camping site to make it a must attend event!

      1.Better Toilets
Let’s face it, it’s the one thing that really takes the glamour out of going to field festivals; the dreaded walk to what could be a questionable personal hygiene experience. Better yet at the Oxjam Cambridge Takeover, you don’t need to trek to designated spots and toilet paper is provided.

2.  Its Cheaper
Rather than pay top dollar for a 3day festival that you may sleep through most of it; the Oxjam Cambridge Takeover is only £10 for a wristband that gets you entry to all six venues – it is even cheaper than a standard night out in Cambridge. You can also opt to pay £3 per venue.

3.  Better Selection of Drinks
If you love your cocktails or real ale then the Oxjam Cambridge Takeover is for you! You can get access to all the usual drinks offered  , plus taking advantage of promotional drink offers. We have all experienced the sharp intake of breath when having to pay £6 for a pint of cider

4. Trailer of Life
And all that comes with it. After a long night dancing, and need some munch, Cambridge has all your late night fast food needs! Mcdonalds? 24 hours! Kebab? Hit the market square! And it won’t hurt your purse strings.

5.No Wet Weather Plan Needed
You never need to worry about the rain! All the acts perform indoors and you can go straight from one to the other. Finally, at the end of the night, you can just jump in a taxi and avoid getting drenched altogether.

6. You Can Wear What You Want
Whilst at a field festival over the weekend you rarely have a choice in what you wear because there is only so much you can carry! You can go as glam, or as indie as you want and not stressed that you will kick mud up the back of your legs.

7.You Can Go Home and Shower
After a long night, most of us just want to go home and get a shower either that night or the next day. The beauty of it is that you have a choice!

 8. All Entry Costs Go To Oxfam
Most important reason of them all…all your entry costs will go to Oxfam. What better reason is there to go out and enjoy yourself then knowing that you are helping to save lives at the same time?

9.  It’s For One Night Only
No need to use some of those hard earned holiday hours from work or University. You can have an epic night and still have the rest of the weekend to slob away on the sofa and potentially nurse the night before.

10. ATMs On Every Corner
You don’t have to carry cash over the course of 4 days and hope you brought enough. There are ATMs on every corner in Cambridge which means you never have to choose between getting food and keeping hydrated.

Whilst we here at Oxjam want you all to have a great time, we must also urge you to please drink responsibly. Your safety is the most important to us.

So there you have it, our top ten reasons why the Oxjam Cambridge Takeover doesn’t need a field, we just need you! Come along; check out the untapped musical talent in Cambridge and help save lives!
Early bird tickets are still available but they’re selling fast!

We’ll see you guys on 18th October!
